    Mark Newton ’88 Closes Chapter As Menlo Football Coach
A er a successful 14-season tenure, Mark Newton ’88
is stepping down from his role as Menlo’s Head Football Coach and plans to transition into other roles. Mark, who also teaches history, applied positive psychology, and freshman seminar, hopes to be more present in
his role as a new father—he and his wife, Whitney,
an English teacher at Menlo,
welcomed their  rst child in
October— while pursuing his
other educational passions.
During his Menlo coaching
career, Mark has 101 wins,
three league championships,
and four Central Coast
Section championship
appearances. His teams have
also won six CCS Scholastic
Championships. In 2017, the Knights  nished with
a league title, thr CCS Scholastic crown, and a trip to the section  nal. Over the years, Mark has been honored as Coach of the Year by Positive Coaching Alliance, Palo Alto Daily News, PAL-Bay, and PAL- Ocean, as well as the San Francisco 49ers Coach of the Week. He is a member of the Menlo Athletics Hall of Fame for football, basketball, and baseball. Full story at http://bit.do/newtonFB.

11-3 overall, third in WBAL, second place-WBAL championships, seventh place-CCS Championships
Menlo  nished in a tie for
second at the West Bay Athletic
League Championships before
earning an at-large bid to the
section championships, where
the Knights placed seventh
overall. Sophie Simino  ’18
was fourth overall and returned
to the NorCals. Simino ,
along with sophomore captains
Gianna Inguagiato and
Sulwen Ma, led a young Menlo
team that went 11-3 for third in a tough league.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
17-7 overall, 10-0 WBAL-Foothill champions, CCS semi nalists
A young Menlo team captured the West Bay Athletic League- Foothill championship with a 6-1 win at Sacred Heart Prep, marking the Knights’ 32nd league championship in school history and 24th consecutive.  e Knights sailed through
the CCS Round of 16 and the quarter nals before falling to eventual champion Los Gatos in the semis. Senior captains Lauren Creamer, Elika Eshghi, and Kathryn Wilson guided a lineup that included several freshmen starters.  e Knights had a strong showing at its own Golden State Classic against the some of the top teams in the state and Hawaii.
Sophie Simino  ’18 led the Knights to a return trip to CCS and advanced to the NorCal Championships
