Boys’ basketball stops TKA, beats Pinewood

The Menlo boys’ basketball team held off The King’s Academy in the last seconds en route to a 61-57 WBAL victory on the road Friday night.
Menlo improves to 4-3 West Bay Athletic League, 10-11 overall, and plays Harker at home Tuesday.
Menlo trailed by six at the half, but would take the lead midway through the fourth. After Robby Enright sank a three, TKA missed its free throws and senior Lucas Vogel added a basket, Menlo went ahead 49-47. The lead changed twice more before sophomore Tate Cohen and Vogel added baskets for a 53-50 lead.
After senior Brooks Mead’s rebound, Cohen again converted a baseline three-pointer on the other end, minutes later Cohen adds another, and Menlo pushed ahead 59-53 with three minutes left. TKA would add consecutive baskets and three timeouts later, Menlo’s defense stifled TKA, then would be awarded the ball after a foul. Sam Reznick sent the ball in, Mead dribbled up the court for a lay-up with 4.2 seconds left for the win.

Cohen finished with 16 points, shooting 4 of 5 from three-point range. Vogel scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and Reznick, a junior, added 12 points.

Menlo 86, Pinewood 54

The Knights improve to 3-3 league and 9-11 overall. Seniors Brooks Mead finished with 23 points and Lucas Vogel added 22 for Menlo
