Blake and Cort Kim inducted into USA Lacrosse NorCal Hall of Fame
Blake, Menlo’s Director of Boys’ Lacrosse, and Cort, former Knights assistant, honored for their contributions to the sport
Menlo School varsity boys’ lacrosse program director Blake Kim and twin brother former Menlo boys’ lacrosse assistant Cort Kim were inducted into the USA Lacrosse NorCal Chapter Hall of Fame in San Francisco on Saturday.
Blake is in his eighth season at Menlo School, six of those coaching with Cort. There they helped establish the program as one of the most powerful in Northern California. After moving to the West Catholic Athletic League in 2018, Blake’s inaugural season as head coach, Menlo advanced to the league semifinals the first two seasons and after two seasons altered by the pandemic, made its debut in the new Central Coast Section playoffs. His teams consistently rank in the section’s scholastic top 5.
The Kim brothers are known not only for their love and dedication to lacrosse, but also for promoting and exemplifying integrity, respect and good sportsmanship in all that they do. Blake also coaches in the middle school, and is a constant supporter for students in their work on and off the fields.
Over the past two decades, Blake and Cort have helped develop a generation of young lacrosse players at various camps and clinics around the country, and have been leading outstanding teams at the high school level. In 2011, then with Sacred Heart Prep, Blake was named a US Lacrosse Regional High School Head Coach of the Year.
Blake and Cort played lacrosse for the University at Albany. Blake graduated as the school’s all-time leader in assists, and was team captain in his senior year. Cort set scoring records and earned All-America honors as a two-year captain at Albany. He and Blake were later inducted into both school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002, and in 2018 they were recognized as members of the 50th Anniversary Team at Albany.
Blake and Cort continued their playing careers with several top post-collegiate club teams worldwide. In the 2002 World Lacrosse Championships in Perth, Australia, Blake and Cort, a captain, played for the inaugural Korean National team. Cort coached Springfield College to consecutive NCAA Div. II National Championship game appearances in 1994 and 1995, and won the title in 1994. U.S. Lacrosse awarded Blake and Cort with the Nolan H. Rogers “Keeper of Lacrosse” Award in 2014 for playing in the spirit of the game, with integrity, respect and honor.
The Kim brothers were selected Hall of Famers in 2019 before the pandemic halted ceremonies. Since 2005, the NorCal Chapter Hall of Fame has been honoring individuals who have made an impact on NorCal lacrosse in their field. “Those who by their deeds as players, coaches, officials and/or contributors, and by the example of their lives, personify the great contribution of the sport of lacrosse to our way of life.”
