The Menlo School volleyball team fell in the CCS Div. IV quarterfinals, a five-set heartbreaker to top seed Harbor 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-10, 15-7 on the road Tuesday,
The Knights finished the season 15-15. Seeded ninth, Menlo jumped out of the blocks with a first-set win and retook the match lead in a thriller of a third set.
The score in the third set was locked in a tie four times down the stretch. Senior setter/opposite hitter Lily Kautai fired a kill to draw a 22-22 tie then sophomore Jamie Johnson’s setter dump gave Menlo the lead. After a Menlo service error, sophomore Alex Fair delivered a crosscourt kill for a 24-23 lead and a Harbor hitting error gave Menlo a 2-1 match lead.
Kautai finished with 13 kills, 19 assists and six digs. Johnson amassed 23 assists and senior Lily Hinshaw 12 kills. Junior libero Ava Wang picked up 17 digs while senior Bryn Dombkowski had 10.
Menlo 3, Harker 0
The Menlo volleyball team rolled past host Harker 25-21, 27-25, 25-20 in the first round of the CCS Div. IV playoffs Saturday.
Senior setter and right-side hitter Lily Kautai poured in 16 kills on .400 hitting, 10 assists and six digs.
Knights sophomore Jamie Johnson recorded 26 assists. Junior outside Lily Hinshaw had 11 kills, hitting .500 while senior Lauren Mrva and sophomore Alex Fair each added four. Junior libero Ava Wang posted 12 digs.
The No. 9 seeded Knights (15-14) play at top seed Harbor (19-9) , 7:00 pm on Tuesday.
