Back on the Mainland, the Menlo School boys’ basketball dropped a 62-51 decision to visiting Half Moon Bay on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (8-4) are coming off a 3-1 showing and a consolation championship at the Punahou Invitational, with their lone loss coming in overtime.

Menlo jumped out to an early 16-10 first-quarter lead, thanks largely to junior Ethan Zhao, who scored 12 of his team-high 15 points in the first period when he shot 5 of 7 from the field. The Cougars (8-2) came back with a 20-point second quarter and led 30-28 at the half.

Seniors Aidan Stull added 10 points and Arman Shah added eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field and grabbed a team-high four rebounds. Junior Maverick Desuasido posted three steals.

For HMB, Asher Meighan scored a game-high 18 points.

Menlo returns to host Neuva on Tuesday.
