CCS qualifications, PRs for swimmers at WBAL

The Menlo School swim team opened its season with strong races and early CCS qualifications at the WBAL Meet on Wednesday.
The team of senior Eden Chuang, sophomore Zoe Chuang, freshman Leila Kao and senior Sofia Flierl won the 200 free relay in 1:43.41, beating the CCS standard.
The 200 medley relay team of Kao, Zoe Chung, Eden Chuang and Flierl swam a CCS cut of 1:56.14 and took second place.
West Point-bound Eden Chuang was a triple winner, taking the 100 breast stroke in a CCS-qualifying 1:08.62 and winning gold in the 200 Individual Medley in 2:12.84. Both times are the best Menlo times in at least four years.
Sofia Flierl, who is headed to Brown for water polo, won the 100 freestyle by over 2 seconds in 56.25. Zoe Chuang was second in 100 breast stroke and third in the 200 IM. Kao swam the 50 free in 27.01.
On the boys’ side, sophomore Kai Chung swam the 200 IM in 2:03.41 for silver, and Menlo’s best time in at least four years. Freshman Lincoln Bott swam a 51.73 100 freestyle.
Junior Calvin Barad swam 100 free in 52.39 and was eighth in the 50 free in 23.77.
