The Menlo School football picked up a homecoming victory with a 48-10 win over Mountain View in non-league play Friday.

Jack Freehill races upfieldJust five plays in, and the Knights (4-0) were on the board. Menlo senior quarterback Jack Freehill fired a 23-yard pass to junior Nathan Banatao. Freehill would finish with four passing touchdowns and he rushed for another.

Will Ferrell’s fumble recovery leads to another scoring drive. This time, Freehill finds sophomore Drew Housser for a 14-0 lead just 4.5 minutes in.

Freehill completed 13 of 14 passes for 168 yarda and four touchdowns

Sophomore Liam Widner gets a pick and runs into the end zone. It’s called back but Menlo makes good two plays later when Freehill takes a handoff from Caleb Cohen then finds Housser again for a 38-yard score.

In the second quarter, Menlo struck twice in a three-minute span with senior Chuck Wynn hauls in a 22-yard scoring pass, then a possesion later, Freehill would take it in himself and Menlo led 34-0 with 8:39 left in the first half. The Spartans’ Dom Kristoff broke free for a 55-yard score, then Mountain View got the ball back with a fumble recovery. Menlo’s Will Ferrell leveled a sack on third down and MV settled for a field goal.

Van der Pyl came roaring back, scoring on an 84-yard kickoff return and Menlo led 41-10 with 4:29 left in the first half. Knights senior Palmer Riley knocked the ball loose for his second forced fumble of the day, van der Pyl recovered and Menlo went 40 yards, culminating the drive with a 1-yard TD run from Merrick Ward.
