Cross country charges into league opener

Boys take first in a landslide; girls second

The Menlo School cross country team kicked off West Bay Athletic League races with the varsity boys taking first and varsity girls taking second in team competition at the Crystal Springs course at Hallmark Park-Belmont on Wednesday.
Junior Henry Hauser took second and sophomore Oliver Olbekson was third - both finishing finishing the 2.95-mile course in 16:09.8 Senior Amay Srinivasan was fifth in 16:14.1 and junior Joseph Hurd was seventh. Junior Ethan Shapero was 12th while seniors Raj Kaushek was 16th and James Yue 20th.

Seniors Halle Blanchard and Anya Ramani were Menlo’s second and third finishers in 12th and 16th. Junior Bella Ewers, freshman Maddy Lee and sophomores Annika Lecybil and Lila Ozdemir rounded out the Menlo team.
Crystal won the girls’ team competition with 25 points, Menlo had 78 and Harker 80.
Menlo won the boys event by 30 points with The King’s Academy coming in second with 59 points and Harker third with 80.
The Knights JV boys also took gold, capturing seven of the top 10 spots. Nineteen ran for Menlo JV boys with Jack Harmon, Tolliver Bates, Christopher Dodd, Gabe Parish, David Gatica, Connor Yonkers and Zander Cosgrove finishing top 10.
In the girls’ JV race, Jaden Jones was Menlo’s top finisher in 16th, Grace Knowles and Ella Trunnell made up the Knights trio.
