Football (7-0) takes down Palo Alto 49-6

Knights take lead early en route to PAL-Bay road win

The Menlo School football team cruised to a 49-6 victory over host Palo Alto on Friday to improve its record to 7-0.
Next Saturday, the Knights (2-0 Peninsula Athletic League-Bay) will face off against league leader Los Gatos, a 35-21 winner over Wilcox next Saturday at home.
Menlo senior quarterback Jack Freehill threw two touchdown passes and ran in two more. Trevor van der Pyl accounted for two scores: a TD reception and an 88-yard kickoff return.
Freehill passed for 170 yards and rushed for 55 yards in 10 carries. Van der Pyl had two receptions for 112 yards, 
Menlo senior Chuck Wynn rushed in for a touchdown after the Knights recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff. Wynn finished with 10 carries or 92 yards, and added 25 more receiving yards. 
Freehill scored on 6-yard keeper then senior Jackson Flanagan hit sophomore JayAr Davis on the conversion and the Knights took a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Capping a 96-yard drive, Freehill ran in from the 6, and Dylan O’Malley converted the point after for a 21-0 lead, burning 4 minutes off the game clock in  the second quarter. Both of van der Pyl’s scores came in the second quarter, lifting the Knights to a 35-6 halftime lead.
The Knights have outscored its PAL-Bay opponents 86-13.
