The Menlo boys’ tennis team defended its Bay Area Tennis Classic title on Friday, going 4-0 against some of the state’s best teams Saturday.
The Knights (6-0) defeated University-San Francisco 5-2 in the final round to wrap up the two-day, 16-team tournament. It is their fifth consecutive event win.
Menlo got past Palos Verdes Peninsula 4-3 in the semis Saturday. A day before, Menlo opened with a 7-0 win over Palo Alto before beating Palos Verdes 6-1.
Juniors Surya Da Datta went 4-0 in singles and Lucas Huang won three singles matches and one doubles match. Senior Arki Temsamani won two singles and two doubles matches while sophomore Riley Huang won one singles and three doubles matches.
The Knights rolled through the early rounds of the Classic on Friday.
Against Palos Verdes, Surya De Datta, Lucas Huang, David Lipeles picked up singles wins at Nos. 2-4. Yuanye Ma fell at No.1. In doubles, Miles Bennett, Maximus Chan, Riley Huang, James Park, Arki Temsamani and Alex Zhou picked up three doubles wins.
In the opening round, De Datta recorded a singles win at No.1. Temsamani took No.2 singles while Riley Huang and Lipeles rounded out the singles sweep.
In doubles, Sage Ash, Miles Burnett, Brad Engel, Matthew Franc, Lucas Huang, Dylan Kothari accounted for three more wins.
