Track & field shines at WBAL opener

Trio takes home two gold medals each   

Knights relay teams at WBAL meet at The King's Academy
​The Menlo School track & field team competed in its first WBAL meet of the season at The King’s Academy on Wednesday, and thrived with a balanced team performance.
Senior Braden Rock, sophomore Tres Onyejekwe and freshman Adrianna Ananyi all secured two gold medals.
Rundown of performances:

Relays

Knights relays Knights relaysThe Menlo girls’ 4x400 relay of sophomores Lisa Huhs, Anikka Lecybil, junior Bella Ewers and senior Ariya Kaushek won in 4:28.17. The second relay of sophomores Penny Diehl and Audrey Katz, and freshmen Maddy Lee and Camila Rodriguez Castro came in sixth among 11 teams.
The Knights girls’ 4x100 of Camille Ananyi, Elise Darling, Claire Barkley and Adrianna Ananyi took gold in 51.68, edging its closest competitor by 3 seconds.
The boys’ 4x400 of Tolliver Bates, Jonah Block, Lete Shen and Amay Srinivasan was third in 3:53.18. The 4x400 of Henry Hauser, Jack Harman, George Chatalbashev and Oliver Olbekson came in fourth in 3:53.20.

Distance

Menlo took Nos. 4, 5, 6 in the 1600 meters as Anya Ramani ran in 5:51.62, Halle Blanchard 5:57.68 and Bella Ewers 6:11.79.
A pair of freshman took the top two spots in the boys’ 1600 for Menlo with Christopher Dodd winning in 5:07.50, Marco Godino-Lin coming in next in 5:09.51. Alexander Hasentstab was fifth (5:24.33).

In the girls’ 800, Lisa Huhs won silver in 2:37.55. Audrey Katz was sixth in 2:42.41, Maddy Lee was eighth in 2:48.06 and Annika Lecybil 10th.
In the boys’ 800, George Chatabalshev was the Knights’ top finisher in 2:13.17. Lete Shen was ninth (2:14.43)

Sprints

In a field of 75, the Knights’ Adrianna Ananyi took second in the girls’ 100-meter dash in 13:17 seconds and Camille Ananyi was third in 13.31. Elise Darling was fifth in 13.80 and Claire Barkley seventh in 13.99. Adriana Ananyi was third in the 200 in 28.50 and Camille Ananyi was fifth in 29.34.
Tres Onyejekwe, a sophomore, again won gold, running the boys’ 400 meters in 50.21, a nearly 5 second lead.
In the boys’ 200, ​Onyejekwe and Maxwell Johnson took gold (with a time of 22.90) and silver (23.82), respectively.
​In the boys’ 100, Maxwell Johnson finished fourth in 11.87.

​Jumps

Menlo dominated the girls’ high jump, taking the top three spots: Adrianna Ananyi, Claire Barkley and Linnea Arnberg cleared 4 feet, 9 inches. Lauren Rukavina and Michelle Louie were fourth and fifth, both with marks of 4-5. Camille Ananyi , Evelyn Chan and Elise Darling took eighth through 10th place.
Celia Hoffman was third in the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 6 inches and Evelyn Chan was eighth (13-4)
The Knights boys took all six spots in long jump, led by Braden Rock (19-2.5), Jacob Elkes (17-4), and Grant Kimura (16-5.5), followed by Finn El-Sawy (14-10), Andrew Chriss 13-9 and Kai Ruwich (12-0). Rock cleared 5-8 in the high jump for first. Jacob Elkes was third (5-4), and Maxwell Johnson fifth (5-0). Elkes won pole vault, clearing 10-6.

Throws

Sierra Wynn and Lisi Mahe placed fourth and fifth in the shot put with marks of 27-10 and 26-4.5.
William Gardner won bronze in shot put with a mark of 31-4 and discus (106-11).
