Swimmers post PRs, CCS cuts in fifth WBAL meet

Relay teams shine at WBAL meet

The Menlo swim team turned in a high-energy performance at its third league jamboree of the season, highlighted by standout relay swims and a surge of new Central Coast Section qualifying marks.

The Knights’ relays continued to set a high standard. The girls’ 200-yard medley relay (Emma Kim, Zoe Chuong, Victoria Yang, and Leila Kuo) secured a big win to start things off with a speedy 1:57.26. Not to be outdone, the boys’ 200 Medley (Austin Rodde, Evan Grant, Kai Chung, and Lincoln Bott) posted a CCS cut of their own in 1:44.57. The girls (Kim, Chuang, Yang, and Lainey Guenther) dominated the 200-yard freestyle relay, taking first place with their fastest time of the season (1:43.87).
Several Knights recorded individual event wins and new CCS qualifying marks yesterday. Yang won both of her individual events: the 200 IM and the 100 Butterfly. Kim also won multiple events, claiming victory in both sprint freestyle events and securing her first CCS qualifying times of the season in the 50 free (25.36) and 100 free (54.65). Guenther earned CCS cuts in both the 200 Freestyle (2:00.24) and the 500 Freestyle (5:23.79).

Kai Chung won the boys’ 100 freestyle with a victory and a CCS cut of his own at 49.56. Menlo was equally strong in the distance events, with Rodde coming away with a win in 5:05.76 in the 500 freestyle.

Menlo had a great day across the board: Chuong and Kuo finished in the top five in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Gaby Gani in the girls’ race and Andreas Profit in the boys’ race showcased their versatility in the 100 IM, both swimming well to finish second in their respective races.

Casey Gullixson and Shrina had strong showings in their freestyle events, with Gullixson posting a personal-best in the 200 and Shrina Shrestha dominating her heat in the 100.
In the 50 Backstroke, Autumn Chambers and Emma Lee fought for top-5 finishes, while Amisha, Kristian, and Jackson continue to make huge strides in their breaststroke technique. A special shoutout to Sienna for a strong anchor leg in the 200 free relay as well.
