Based on the hit film and novel by Amanda Brown, Legally Blonde: The Musical follows Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority president who seems to have it all…until her boyfriend breaks up with her to attend Harvard Law. Determined to win him back, Elle enrolls at Harvard herself, only to discover that she is capable of far more than anyone—including herself—expected.
Filled with energetic dance numbers and unforgettable songs, the musical explores themes of perseverance, identity, and breaking stereotypes. At its heart, Legally Blonde is a story about finding your voice, owning your strengths, and redefining success on your own terms.
“Elle’s journey is about much more than proving someone wrong,” says director Mark Schneider. “It’s about discovering that your individuality is your greatest strength. Our students have embraced the show’s energy, humor, and heart in truly inspiring ways.”
This production marks a couple of important firsts: it’s Menlo Drama’s first musical with new director Mark Schneider and features a whopping 52 students (23 seniors, 9 juniors, 6 sophomores, and 13 freshman).
Meet the cast
The production features a talented ensemble of Menlo Upper School students.
“Elle’s confidence and optimism are contagious,” says Emma Kacher ’26, who plays Elle Woods. “The character faces setbacks, but she never stops believing in herself—and that’s been incredibly empowering to explore.”
“Doing the show this year has been such a beautiful opportunity,” says Aria Wasson ’28, who plays Pilar. “Not only have I been able to expand my music knowledge through rehearsal and getting to know the show itself, but I’ve loved joining the Menlo theater community too! Everyone is so welcoming and sweet, and I’m enjoying the new friendships just as much as I love the music!”
“Legally Blonde is such an incredible work of art as its message is relevant across generations,” says Robbie Tsao ’29, who plays Emmett. “Its comedic complexity is masterfully incorporated into its message of staying true to yourself.”
