Baseball sweeps Carlmont series

Knights win thriller in second match-up

Menlo sophomore William Larson hit a homer and drove in three runs in a thrilling, eight-inning victory over Carlmont
The Menlo baseball team used a barrage of hits to break through in the eighth inning, securing a 9-4 victory over Carlmont and sweeping the PAL-Bay Division series Thursday.
The Knights (5-3 league, 12-7 overall) used a six-run eighth inning to beat the Scots (8-11). Senior Renner Barnett led off the inning with a single, advanced to third on Hunter Moulds’ sacrifice and a groundout. With two out, Fletcher Cahill got an RBI double. Zach Roeder drives in two with a single before Matt Majalya widens the lead to 7-3 with an RBI double. Menlo went through the order once William Larson scored two with another base hit.
Roeder, who went 3 for 4, and Larson each finished the day with three RBI. Majalya had two hits and two RBI. Leadoff Jack Freehill went 3 for 5 with a double.
Liam Widner got the win in relief, allowing three hits, 1 earned run in 4 1/3 innings. Cahill started, giving up three runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out five.
The Knights held an early 2-1 lead through three innings thanks to Larson’s homer and Roeder’s RBI single. Carlmont took a one-run lead in the fourth before Majalya’s solo home run knotted the score 3-3 in the sixth inning.

 

Menlo 4, Carlmont 0

The Menlo baseball team took an early lead and never looked back in a 4-0 win over visiting Carlmont in PAL-Bay play on Wednesday.

Knights senior Jackson Flanagan allowed just three hits in four innings, walking two and striking out three for the win. Sophomore Reid Plamondon came on in relief, allowing three hits with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings for the save.

In the second, William Larson drove in the Knights’ first run on a grounder before Renner Barnett grounded into a fielder’s choice to plate Matthew Majalya.
In the fourth, senior catcher Chuck Wynn’s base hit scored Barnett, who singled and Logan Tran, who reached on an error.
