Menlo Fire and Hurricane Relief Efforts

Menlo Community and Civic Engagement Program Launches Efforts to Support Fire Victims and Hurricane Relief
Menlo School Students deliver supplies.

Menlo is hosting a Food Drive to support the victims of the Northern California fires. The effort will be launched at the Homecoming Football game on October 20, and all donations will be delivered to the Redwood Empire Food Bank, Sonoma County’s largest hunger relief organization.

We are collecting the following items:

  • ready to eat/just add water meals (mac-n-cheese, ramen, chili)
  • canned soup
  • single serving fruit cups and pouches.
(Please only donate these specified items because the food bank is already operating with limited resources and unneeded items take time to sort.)

Menlo students are also leading the charge to raise funds for hurricane relief. Knight Vision, Menlo’s Community Engagement Club, is spearheading the School’s effort to support the victims of Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The road to recovery for those who have lost their homes and/or business will be long and arduous, so we will continue to assess which organizations to support. The students have raised $788 to date and have set a goal of raising $20,000 by the end of the school year. They will be launching a website soon to help reach this goal. (Watch eNotes for details.)

“Although we don’t have the capacity to respond to every natural disaster, it’s important that we continue to examine what we can do both as a Menlo community and with our immediate families to help those who are suffering,” says Director of Community and Civic Engagement Jessie Brugos. “Every little bit matters and within each of us lies the power to make a positive change.”
