In honor of Black History Month, Menlo’s Library featured daily displays of African American authors. Here’s a look at some of the featured authors and the displays that decorated the library throughout the month.

  February 1: We honor and celebrate Pulitzer Prize winner, Toni Morrison. You can find her books A Mercy, God Help the Child, The Origin of Others and many more in the Library.

February 5: We celebrate Zandie Smith! Her books On Beauty and Swing Time can be found at the Library.

February 6: Today we feature the works of Kwame Alexander, whose novels include Solo, The Crossover, Rebound, and He Said, She Said, all available in the Library.

February 10: Christopher Paul Curtis is the featured author for the day as we continue Black History Month. You can check out several of his works in the Library.

February 11: On the eleventh day of Black History Month, we celebrate Jesmyn Ward, author of Sing, Unburied, Sing, Men We Reaped, Salvage the Bones, Where the Line Bleeds, and The Fire This Time. Read more about her in this article published in Time Magazine.

February 12: Today we honor the many works of author Walter Dean Myers, which include Lockdown, Now Is Your Time, Bad Boy, One More River To Cross, and several others, all which can be found in the Library.

February 13: Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winning poet Tracy Smith is the author of the day as Black History Month continues. Her poetry can be found in the Library or here.

February 15: Today's spotlight for Black History Month is award-winning author Nikki Grumes, who has not only written books for children and young adults but is also a performing artist, jewelry designer, photographer and visual artist. View more of her work here.

February 25: Today we take a closer look at Alice Walker. Stop by the Library and learn more about her work.

February 26: The author of the day is Lamar Giles, a speaker, teacher and author of acclaimed young adult thrillers as well as a founding member of We Need Diverse Books. His first novel, Fake ID, nominated for an Edgar Award, is in production to be made into a film. Learn more about him at lamargiles.com.

February 27: Our spotlight for today is Tiffany Jackson, author of the novel Monday's Not Coming, which was designated by YALSA as one of the top books of 2019.

February 28: Today's author is legendary civil rights hero, legislator, and author of the award-winning MARCH graphic novel series John Lewis. Stop by the Library to see his work.

March 1: Black History Month concludes with multi-award winning author Jacqueline Woodson. You can check out all of her work in the Library.
