Football drops 24-14 decision to M-A

10.21.22 – In the first meeting between the crosstown rivals since 2018, the Menlo School football team dropped a 24-14 Peninsula Athletic League decision at Menlo-Atherton on Friday night.
Ty Richardson finished with 102 all-purpose yards and a TD against Menlo-Atherton The Knights (1-2 league, 4-4 overall) stayed within arm’s reach of the Bears (3-1, 5-3),
Down 10-0 at halftime, Ty Richardson capped a long drive with two rushes and a pair of short passes from fellow senior Jake Bianchi, including a shovel pass from 2 yards for the score. Knights trailed by three with 6:48 left in the third quarter.
Bears would counter on the next possession when Sherrod Smith rumbled for 49 yards for a score. After holding the Knights, M-A had field position at the Knights’ 30, and on first play, quickly came back with another score from Smith, and the Bears lead 24-7 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter.
Menlo wasn’t finished. The Knights’ Robby Enright pulls in a a 35-yardpass from Jake Bianchi with 5:00 left in the fourth, but the Bears held on.
M-A struck first midway through the second quarter when Smith scored his first of three touchdowns of the day.Bianchi completed 15 of 30 passes for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Richardson had 15 carries for 70 yards and four catches for 32 yards and a TD. Enright had two catches for 45 yards including his touchdown reception and fellow senior Cort Halsey grabbed five catches for 70 yard.
Menlo JV remains undefeated with a 27-0 win over M-A, and holds an 8-0 record.
Menlo next travels to Burlingame on Thursday night.
