2.18.2023 – The Menlo boys’ soccer team advanced to the CCS Div. IV semifinals after a 2-0 overtime victory over Mt Pleasant at home Saturday,
The No. 4-seeded Knights (12-5-4) will play at top seed North Salinas at 3:00 pm on Wednesday.
Knotted 0-0 through regulation, the teams went to two overtime periods. Then, Menlo junior Eric Schmidtke landed a shot from close range on a feed from junior Yasin Abdulkariem 1:40 into the first OT period.
Knights led 1-0 heading into the second OT period when Abdulkarien on an assist from fellow junior Andre Gonzales Lombera delivered an insurance goal.
Junior Ben Bishop and the Knights preserved the shutout.
