Girls’ basketball returns to CCS Championships

2.223.2023 –The Menlo girls’ basketball team is headed back to the CCS Div. IV Championships after a commanding second quarter propelled them to a 57-36 victory over The King’s Academy at home Thursday.

Top-seeded Menlo (14-10) will play No. 2 seed Half Moon Bay (18-8), which defeated Notre Dame-Belmont 54-51 in overtime. The Championships are Saturday at 1:00 pm at Mission College.
Menlo crushed the second quarter, going on a 19-2 run which started after TKA hit a pair of free throws, and spanned more than eight minutes and lasted into the third quarter. Menlo senior was a force in the first quarter, and dropped a three-pointer in the second period to put Menlo ahead for good. With 1:14 left before the half, sophomore Karen Xin dropped a three for a 24-17 lead, followed by freshman Maren Mulloy’s three, then sophomore Ruiqi Liu followed a turnaround jumper with another basket, and Menlo never looked back.
Xin finished with 18 points, four assists and six rebounds while Liu had 10 points and four rebounds. Jensen pitched in with eight points and six rebounds. Ten scored for Menlo and nine grabbed rebounds, including junior Arthi Abhyanker, who pulled down four in the fourth quarter.
