The Menlo School girls’ tennis team advanced to the consolation championship and finished 10th in the Point Loma Tournament, featuring some of the best teams in the state and Hawaii this past weekend.

Menlo went 2-2 in the two-day invitational. The Knights drew Portola in the first round - a newcomer to the tournament - and lost 4-2. Portola would then win their second match of the day, upsetting top-ranked Mater Dei.
Menlo then rebounded with a dominating 6-0 win over Coronado, and followed with a 4-2 victory over Los Osos.
Coach Bill Shine inserted all the girls who hadn’t yet played in the tournament into the lineup for the final round. In a thriller, Menlo and Westview tied 3-3 in matches as well as the next tiebreaker sets: 7-7 and ultimately lost a narrow decision: 48-43 games.
Knights freshman Emily Li played and won all four matches - three in singles and one teamed with freshman Sophia Jia. Sophomore Elise Chen played in three matches, winning two singles and one doubles with junior Andra Braicu, who also won at No.1 singles.
