Demonstrating the Grace and Power of Dance Through Photography

With this series of posters, I wanted to capture the incredible grace and power that permeates every Knight Dancers’ performance.

The undulating lines flowing around the dancers highlight how they masterfully move through space while interpreting sound to create a beautiful expression of artistry. The continuity of the lines conveys how their harmony on stage as performers creates an even more powerful message. Together, they are able to inspire audiences with their incredible talents.

Designing posters for this year’s dance concert was an incredibly unique experience. While I have had experience designing other posters, I have never created a display of this scale. Designing and taking photography for 8 posters was a daunting task, and I really appreciate all the help I had from the Menlo parents that work tirelessly to help make the dance concert possible. I’ve learned an incredible amount, not only about the process of working on a large project, but also working with people who can help make my vision possible. I’m so proud of the final display, shown in an earlier post. While it was a lot of work, I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to create something special as a culminating project in my final year at Menlo.

I have been performing in the dance concert since sixth grade, and have known Courtney and Jan Chandler since the start of my time at Menlo. I am so glad that I was able to create something that lived up to the vision that Jan has had for a long time. Furthermore, it was even more meaningful that this was the 30th year that the dance concert has taken place. While I, unfortunately, did not have time to perform in the show this year myself, I am incredibly glad that I was able to be a part of it in such a unique way, and I hope that my contribution made this year’s dance concert even more special for the Knight Dancers that are also departing this year.
