Malia ‘14 has spent several years participating in M-BEST workshops and now helps plan its activities. One of her new projects is the M-BEST Abroad initiative, in which Menlo girls will bring their science workshops to schools in the nearby community and abroad.

In addition to serving on the Coat of Arms staff and playing softball, Malia is also heavily involved in community service. Here’s what she has to say:

“Every summer I volunteer at the Haven Family House as a camp counselor for their summer splash program. I got to know the kids extremely well and I was sad when I had to leave. Later that October, I took some of the kids I babysit trick-or-treating and I just happened to see some of the kids I worked with at the camp. They recognized me and gave me a hug. This was the best feeling in the world, because I could just look at their faces and see how happy they were, and that made me realize that even though the kids were homeless they still had a bright smile on their face and were able to do the same activities as any other kid would do”
