Boys’ basketball goes 2-1 in week’s WBAL play

Week of Jan. 17-22, 2022

1.21.2022 –In its second down-to-the wire game in two days, the Menlo boys’ basketball made a brilliant comeback before falling 64-61 to The King’s Academy in a West Bay Athletic League game Friday.
Menlo senior Daniel Solomon made a layup to close the gap 60-59 with 33 seconds left. He added another layup in traffic, and Menlo trailed 62-61 with 15,9 seconds left.

The King’s Academy’s Tylek Barnett sank both his free throws with 9,4 seconds left, and the Knights missed a three-point try before time expired.
The Knights (8-4, 2-1 league) came back from a cold-shooting second quarter and a 32-19 deficit. Robby Enright made a basket to move within six, Will Eggemeier made a steal and Sam Reznik converted a three-point play and the Knights trailed 47-43 with 5:20 left. TKA pulled ahead 53-46. Vogel made the back end of a technical and Reznik dropped a three to make it 53-50 with 4 minutes left.
Vogel finished with 20 points - with three three-pointers - while Solomon had 14 points, shooting 4 of 4 from inside the arc. Solomon also had seven rebounds, three steals and three assists. Enright added 10 points and a block, and Eggemeier had three assists, three steals and five rebounds.
Menlo next plays Priory in a rematch.

Menlo 48, Priory 46

1.21.22 – The Menlo boys’ basketball team erased an early deficit by the third quarter and held on for a thrilling 48-46 victory Thursday at Woodside Priory.
The Knights improve to 3-0 in West Bay Athletic League play and 9-3 overall. Menlo next hosts The King’s Academy (3-1) on Friday night.
Menlo senior Daniel Solomon finished with a game-high 17 points, making 4 of 8 three-point attempts. Juniors Will Eggemeier added 13 points; Lucas Vogel 11 points and seven rebounds; and Robby Enright pulled down seven rebounds and had three assists.

Menlo 65, Crystal Springs 45

1.18.2022 –The Menlo boys’ basketball team picked up a 65-45 victory at Crystal Springs in WBAL play Tuesday night.
The Knights improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 league, and play Woodside Priory on the road Thursday in a make-up game.
Menlo took an eight-point lead at the half but a 19-7 third quarter put the game out of reach. Menlo junior Lucas Vogel paved the way for the offense with 20 points,Senior Daniel Solomon had 17 points, three assists while junior Robby Enright contributed 12 points, five rebounds and three steals. Will Eggemeier pitched in with 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
