CCS: Girls’ lacrosse headed to quarterfinal

Knights defeat Woodside 13-10

5.10.23 – The Menlo girls’ lacrosse team held off a late charge by Woodside for a 13-10 victory at home Wednesday, and the Knights are headed to the CCS quarterfinals.
The No.7 Knights (7-9) face host No. 2 Sacred Heart Prep at 5:30 pm Friday.
Menlo held a 6-3 halftime lead before Woodside came roaring back and went ahead 9-8. Menlo’s Kylie Jones scored to tie the score at 9-9 with 11:41 left. Freshman Marin Yamada gave the Knights a 10-9 advantage with 8:54 left then Hannah Bernthal added another. Woodside scored with 6 minutes left to make it 11-10 before Yamada added her fourth goal of the night with 5:47 left and sophomore Ellie Knoll sealed the win with 2:22 left.
Menlo’s Devon Schaefer finished with 10 saves. Along with her team-high four goals, Yamada assisted on another. Elia Choe, also a freshman had two goals and two assists
Kylie Jones, a junior, netted a goal, assist and five draw controls. Hannah Bernthal, a freshman scored, had an assist and three draw controls. Ari Kaufman, a sophomore, had two goals and Madison Vitro, a senior, posted a goal and two assists. Maren Mulloy and Ellie Knoll each had a goal.
