Maddy Price ’14 inducted into Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame

6.22.2023 – Olympic track and field star and Menlo School 2014 graduate Maddy Price was inducted into the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame on June 22 at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City.

“To this day, I play sports and run because it brings me so much joy. It makes me feel powerful beyond measure,” Maddy said in a speech read by her mum Sarah. “I hope to inspire the younger generation to believe in themselves and continue to play.”

Price was not be able to make the ceremony as she is training in Europe with hopes of qualifying for the upcoming World Championships. Sarah Price and Menlo Track & Field and Cross Country Coach accepted on her on her behalf.

“Maddy Price the athlete is very impressive indeed, but Maddy the person is absolutely phenomenal,” Chen said in a speech at the ceremony. “From 6th grade XC to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Maddy’s constant personality has always been the down-to-earth, old soul, behind the scenes hard-working, resilient, humble, atypical non-trash talking Sprinter, a great role model to kids and adults alike; and inspirational to many which she picked up from her amazing parents.”

Price, a Menlo School 2014 graduate and Duke All-American and is a record-holder at both schools. She competed in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics for Team Canada with the 4x400 relay, and was among 57 track and field athletes earning the right to compete for Canada.

Price, whose parents are Canadian, started as a professional track athlete in 2019, competing in the IAAF World Relays in Japan, World University Games in Italy, and the IAAF World Championships in Qatar.

Price will be inducted along with David Bakhtiari (Serra football), Nicole Quigley-Borg (Capuchino, CSM softball coach), Horace Hinshaw (Pacifica sports journalist), Mike Lewis (College of San Mateo track and field coach), Eddie Mack (San Mateo, CSM track)

A two-time Central Coast Section champion in the 200 and 400 at Menlo, and a six-time All-American at Duke, Price competed in basketball, cross country for the Knights as well. She still holds the league-best marks in the 400 meters and the 300m hurdles.
