Boys’ soccer dominates SHP 5-0

Knights score in first :09; Gonzalez Lombera 3 assists

From the first minute, the Menlo boys’ soccer team dominated in a 5-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart Prep on Friday.
The Knights (5-1-3) improved to 2-0 in West Bay Athletic League and handed the Gators (3-5-1 overall) their first league loss of the young season.
Nine seconds in, senior Eric Schmidtke picked up where he left off, scoring the eventual game winner against Harker days earlier. This time he got the Knights started with a 1-0 lead.
Yasin Abdulkariem, also a senior, scored on an Andre Gonzalez Lombera assist in the 33rd minute. Alessandro Velazquez made it 3-0 at halftime on another Gonzalez Lombera feed 10 minutes later.
The two combined again when Gonzalez Lombera came up from the right side then assisted on his third goal - a precise dish to Velazquez who tapped it in for his second goal and a 4-0 lead midway through the second half.
Alex Boesch capped the scoring, converting a cornerkick from fellow senior Julian Sheehan.
Knights senior Ben Bishop picks up the shutout win.
Menlo next plays host to Eastside on Wednesday.
