Boys’ soccer wins WBAL Championship

Knights finish season 14-3-3 and 12-2-0 for its second league title in three seasons

Menlo boys' soccer defeated Pinewood 5-0 to win its second league title in three seasons.

With a shutout victory in its regular-season finale, the Menlo School boys’ soccer team brought home the West Bay Athletic League championship Wednesday on the road. 

The Knights wrap up league play with a 12-2-0 record ahead of second-place The King’s Academy which tied Sacred Heart Prep on Wednesday. Menlo (14-3-3) learns its playoff matchup tomorrow, Feb. 15 before CCS opens up play on Saturday.

It is the second league title in three seasons and fifth in program history for the Knights.

In a 5-0 win over Pinewood on the road, Menlo got a pair of goals from senior tri-captain Alessandro Velazquez. Senior Eric Schmidtke and junior Gabriel Gil  each had a goal and an assist. 

Senior Ben Bishop and sophomore Dylan O’Malley combined for Menlo’s 10th shutout of the season. 

Senior Norberto Aguilar added a goal and senior Yasin Abdulkariem, junior Carter Techel and sophomore Declan Sitter each had an assist.
