In a repeat of last year’s final: Knights rolls to win over Half Moon Bay
Girls' basketball CCS Div. IV Champions 2024
In a repeat of last season’s CCS championship, the Menlo girls’ basketball team made it three section titles in a row and first under new coach Ryan Cooper.
Saturday’s game marked a second year that Menlo defeated Half Moon Bay - this time, the No. 1-seed Knights (18-9) rolled to a 49-33 victory at Mission College over the No. 2 Cougars for a 10th championship in program history.
Arthi Abhyanker, who remembered years ago getting moved up from JV her sophomore and junior years for those CCS Championships. Now as a senior, she had a clear role.
“It was great watching all these amazing juniors and seniors win, then the second time my junior year, I didn’t play a single minute, but again it was so amazing to be a part of. Now the third time, it was truly special, and it was great to help support my team on the floor.”
Abhyanker delivered in the post and from the three-point line and finished with a team-high 16 points and six rebounds. Senior Summer Young pulled down nine rebounds and scored nine points, all on three-pointers. Junior Ruiqi Liu had 15 points, four rebounds and a block and Karen Xin distributed five assists.
“This season has been phenomenal, and it’s an honor to be able to follow all that Menlo basketball has done in past years,” Cooper said. “They bought into a new system, and they worked so hard.”
“It was just a great experience to have and I’m so proud of our team and what we’ve achieved over the years,” Abhyanker said. “I’m so excited for the Menlo dynasty.”
