Knights defeat defending NCS Div. II champion

Menlo lacrosse toppled North Coast Section power Tamalpais 9-8 in OT
The Menlo girls’ lacrosse team won a dramatic overtime thriller 9-8 against defending North Coast Section Div. II champion Tamalpais at home Friday.
After an 8-8 tie in regulation, the teams went to sudden-death OT. Knights junior goalie Devon Schaefer made a stop in that period, and the teams headed to the second overtime period. Sophomore Marin Yamada picked up a ground ball and fired for the winner 1 minute, 14 seconds into the second OT.
The Knights went into the third, down by one before sophomore Elia Choe scored her first of three consecutive goals, from the third period into the fourth. Ari Kaufman scored a go-ahead goal to give Menlo an 8-7 lead with 1 minute to go in regulation before the Red-Tailed Hawks countered to force overtime.
The Knights defense pestered Tam all game. Schaefer finished with 11 saves.
Choe finished with three goals on five attempts, one assist and one draw control. Knights senior Tatum Herrin’s hat trick kept Menlo close in the first half. Along with her game-winning goal, Yamada assisted on another. Senior Kylie Jones scored Menlo’s first goal and won five draws.
The Knights improve to 2-0 under first-year coach Parnika Patel, and face Menlo-Atherton on the road Wednesday,
