He topped the previous time of 8:48.74 set in 2021 by Nathan Topper of Bellarmine.

“My big goal going into the race was to just have as much fun as possible,” Pretre said. “Everyone knew it was supposed to be one of the fastest races in high school history so just knowing I was a part of something like that was super exciting.”

On Saturday, Pretre finished 25th as thirty seven runners in the top-tier Invitational field eclipsed the 9-minute mark.

“I made sure to stay relaxed the whole race: I was pretty much in last place for the first mile, but still on pace for a fast time,” he said. “Races that fast and fun are definitely rare so I don’t take them for granted. I’m just super thankful to be put in that situation to succeed and be able to perfor, as well as I could,”

Senior Summer Young also earned a bid to the Arcadia Invitational after trying the event for the first time less than a year ago, and cleared 5-2 in the high jump.

Will Hauser, a junior, ran the Open mile in 4:18.60 taking eighth in his section and 21st overall.

Four Menlo runners competed at the Pacific Invitational in Pasadena.

Junior Jared Saal placed 20th in the varsity 800 in 2:02.37

Henry Hauser, a freshman, was third in the Rising Stars 800 in 2:02.25. Sophomores Amay Srinivasan took 10th in 2:06.28 and Asher Lev was 16th in 2:08.15.

The Knights will compete in WBAL meet 3 next Thursday, April 18,, and some will be back in Southern California for the Mt Sac Invitational.
