Program Overview

Athletics is considered an integral part of every student’s education at Menlo School. Each Middle School student is required to participate daily in either physical education (PE) classes or as a member of an interscholastic or intramural athletic team.

The sixth grade practice and physical education program runs from 12:15 pm to 1:32 pm daily. Every sixth grader joins an intramural or interscholastic team. Sixth graders have physical education class one or two days of each week and have team practice three or four days each week.

Seventh and eighth graders have athletics from 1:51 pm to 3:05 pm daily. Students have the option of trying out for and playing on an interscholastic or intramural team, or enrolling in PE.

Sports offered in the Middle School include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, softball, swimming, track and field, tennis, water polo, and volleyball.

Students may also take Physical Education (PE). This program is designed to expose each student to a variety of activities; teach basic skills, rules and tactics; improve physical fitness; and provide a supportive environment in which to practice skills and participate in the activities. Through teaching PE, we hope to encourage overall physical wellness and promote healthy life habits.
