Newly Admitted - Middle School

Welcome to the Middle School:

We know you have a lot of questions about getting ready for your new school.

Rest assured: we’ll make sure your entrance into the Menlo community is as smooth as possible, and that you’ll get all the information you need. Here are some things you’ll need to do before school starts in the fall, and if you need more help, you can always type a phrase in the search box at the top of the webpage to find what you need.

 Getting your class schedule.

  • This letter provides detailed information about our world languages program.
  • You need to indicate your world language first and second choices on this form by May 8.
  • Be on the lookout for details on getting your class schedule, which will be emailed to you in early August.
  • Optional: If your child has a diagnosed or suspected learning difference or if you would like to learn more about Learning Support at Menlo, we invite you to watch a recording of an informational meeting with our Learning Support team.

Pick a sport for fall P.E.

Submit your forms for the 6th Grade Outdoor Education Overnight

  • On the first day of school, August 24, the entire sixth grade class departs for an outdoor education overnight. You can see the details and permission forms here. Please sign and return the forms by Friday, August 11, by scanning and emailing them to Shanel Daines, Sixth Grade Team Lead, or by dropping them off at the Middle School Office.

Learn about your summer reading, technology needs, and how to order books and supplies.

  • Summer reading assignments and teacher instructions are available here. More information about other texts for fall courses will be available through the Menlo Booklist Generator, which will be sent to you the first week of August when schedules are announced.
  • Starting July 1, visit to view the Middle School supply list for the year. You can order everything there, or you can view the list and shop elsewhere.
  • By September 8, sixth graders will need an Apple MacBook laptop with MacOS 12 (“Monterey”) or newer. We strongly recommend the 13-inch MacBook Air with at least 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Learn more about technology in the Middle School.

Make sure you submit your immunization record and health information.

  • You should receive an email from Magnus Health Student Medical Record, our partner in collecting and managing student medical information, sometime in late May or early June. Complete the online form with your medical information, including immunizations* (do not send records to Menlo). Please do this before August 1—you can’t come to school without it! Middle School students DO NOT need to get a pre-participation annual physical. Just complete the required documents in Magnus. If you do not receive an email from Magnus Health by June 10, please contact the school nurse.

*Note: Menlo School is no longer requiring Covid vaccination, but it is strongly encouraged. Your Covid vaccination information may be uploaded along with your other vaccination records in Magnus. Questions? Email the school nurse.

 Keeping Connected and Getting Involved

  • Please read this welcome letter and invitation to get involved with the Menlo School Parent Association (MSPA).
  • From Advocacy to Tutorial—and everything in between—you may want to check out these Menlo Terms to Know to help familiarize yourself with the many facets of Menlo.
  • In June, you’ll get an email newsletter (we call this “zipNotes”) with all the information you’ll need for the summer.
  • In early August, you’ll get an email with all the information you’ll need for the start of school. Be sure to read this email!
  • To make sure Menlo emails don’t end up in your spam folder, add to your list of contacts and/or approved senders.
  • Swing by the Campus Store if you want to stock up on Menlo spirit gear and take advantage of the Welcome New Families Sale of 25% off on all in-store merchandise.
  • Here you will find contact information for your classmates and their families. (Note, you will need the new family login that was on the bottom of the “Get Ready” handout in your packet from the welcome event. If you lost that handout, please email

How will you GO MENLO? Check out transportation options.

How you Go Menlo matters! Menlo has an agreement with the Town of Atherton to limit traffic coming to campus during peak drop-off and pick-up times. Help us meet this goal and reduce our environmental impact by walking, biking, carpooling, or riding the train or bus. Learn more about Menlo’s bus transportation program and start thinking about how you’ll get to school. This summer, we’ll communicate more transportation information, including sign-up details, bus and shuttle times, and a carpool map so you can see who lives in your neighborhood.

Looking for some summer fun? Consider Menlo’s athletics summer programs.

Summer Sports Camps @ Menlo: Menlo Athletics is pleased to offer summer sports camps 2023. Choose from half-day, full-day, middle school, upper school, and a variety of sports camps. Register here.
